Almeria airport information
Almeria airport is 9 kilometres to the east of the region's capital city, 500 metres from the coast on the gulf of Almeria and to the south of the Sierra Alhamilla. In the area neighbouring the airport are the towns of El Alquian and Costacabana.
The airport is located on the very edge of the Mediterranean Sea, the runways running parallel with the coastline. The airport has two active runways and the apron can handle up to eleven aircraft at any given time. It can also handle small, sports aircraft.

Almería airport is one of the main driving forces behind the tourism potential of Almería province. Situated in the bay of Almería, eight kilometres from the city, it has excellent connections with the other tourist destinations in the province, such as Cabo de Gata, Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar, El Ejido or Mojácar. It is the third most important Andalusian airport in terms of passenger numbers, after Málaga and Seville, and the seventeenth amongst all Spanish airports.
Over the past decade, growth has been continual at Almería airport, rising from having 484,494 passengers in 1992 to almost half a million in 2000. During 2001, 2002 and 2003, the number of passengers dropped slightly and, the figures for last year being 14,918 in terms of aircraft movements and over 830,000 in terms of passengers.
