The Almerian Sierra Nevada. Lajuar - Cerro del Almirez. Almería trekking routes

Time: Nine hours. We advise to spread it over two days.

We shall leave Laujar de Andarax town walking on to Paterna del Río. One km. farther, a forest track branches off to the right, and we shall take it.

The track, which is quite tortuous, gives a spectacular view of the countryside and of the Laujar town.

We shall reach the rest of Monterrey leaving a track to our right towards the Cortijo del cerecillo shelter, in an excellent position, sorrounded by a recreation area dominated by pines and planted with walnuts and chestnut trees.

A steep track behind the shelter goes uo the ridge to the Albergue de Gabiarra. From here on there there is no track. Walking on the northeast along the spur at but first alternating with the hillside, we shall reach a hill on the right of which is the Cerro (hill) del Almirez, 2,817 m. at its highest point.
