Province and Villages - Cadiz - Chiclana de la frontera
Chiclana de la frontera information
Chiclana de la Frontera
Situated in a privileged enclave among sand dunes and pines, the town is only 9 km. from the sea. Opposite the coastline is found the island of Sancti-Patri with its famous Faro (Light-house) and Castle (13th century), built on the ruins of the temple of Zeus built by the Phoenicians. Popular architecture is evident in the characteristic Andalusian narrow streets and flower-filled patios.
Of great artistic interest are monuments of the town: the Ermita de Santa Ana (18th century) with its great cupula, the capilla del Santo Cristo (16th century), the iglesia de San Juan Bautista (18th century) and the iglesia de Jesús Nazareno (17th century).
With regards to beaches, La Barrosa is note-worthy: 8 km long with carefully-placed tourist facilities, close to which is the Novo Sancti Petri tourist complex, containing apartments, hotels, leisure facilities and a modern golf course designed by Severiano Ballesteros. Sancti-Petri beach is ideal for wind-surfing and has a Nautical Club and quay.
