Costa del Sol
Malaga spain information
From the western Cádiz coast to Nerja, on the provincial border with Granada, there opens up a great arch of beaches which are the principal tourist destinations of Andalusia. This region has become one the most highly-developed tourist areas on an international level, for the following reasons: the dry, warm climate and abundant hours of sunlight, the quiet, warm and blue-cristal waters, and the wealth of landscapes, with many beaches spread out amongst the sierras(mountain chain) and the sea.
The Costa del Sol represents about 13% of Andalusia´s coastline, and includes near 50% of hotel beds on offer along the Andalucian coast and around 40% of the total accommodation.
In this western coast you will find all the tourist facilities and
services, with 13 marinas for pleasure craft, 38 golf courses with
accommodation and facilities.A wide and large amount of restaurants
together with a really lively ambience and a good nightlife.
Water parks and fun fairs, first-class sports facilities, casinos…
are also on offer in this area.
The communications along the Costa del Sol turn around the N-340 coast road and the new motorway which links Malaga city - Airport- Torremolinos-Benalmadena-Fuengirola-Marbella-San Pedro-Estepona.
Ronda is one of the most important inland village in this area and also a recognized tourist destination.Ronda houses interesting monuments , great bullfighting tradition with its famous "corrida goyesca".It is close by the sierra (mountain chain) de las Nieves and the national park of Grazalema.
The long list of places begins in Sotogrande, belonging to Cádiz, home to the 1997 Ryder Cup, the golf world´s most important international date, with the top players of Europe and America doing battle.
Then an uninterrupted run of tourist destinations, is made up of the following towns: Manilva, San Luis de Sabanillas, Estepona, San Pedro de Alcantara, Marbella (Puerto Banus), Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Málaga.
To the east of Málaga, the capital of the Costa del Sol, the level of tourist development is quite advanced, although never reaching the levels of its western counterpart. The tourist offer has mainly been concentrated in the Nerja area. Apartments offer is higher than the hotel one due to the importance of the family tourism in this area.
La Axarquia ,both on the coast and inland one may find many towns and white washed villages of typical Andalucian flavour, breathing in the nostalgia for their splendid Arab past.
The east coast is a succession of important tourist destinations: El Rincon de la Victoria, Almayate, Torre del Mar, and the coastal area of Costa del Sol, capital of La Axarquia, and a town of great importance during the Muslim occupation.
