Events Calendar in Malaga: September 2015

Finally and gradually cease the extremely high temperatures giving place to one of the best months on the Costa del Sol:

September, the month that combines the best of summer with excellent temperatures and warm waters but empty beaches and better value than high season.

It is also the month of Fairs, among other activities of which are particularly recommendable Luna Mora Festival in Guaro and the Pilgrimage of San Miguel in Torremolinos.


XVI International Fantasy Film Festival of the Costa del Sol


cine fantastico costa del solThis fantasy film festival that began more than a decade in Estepona has spread slowly to other towns on the Costa del Sol; Estepona however is still the place where most movies are projected.

On September 6 at 9 pm, takes place at the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre the opening session of the Official Selection, competing ten films from countries such as Japan, Ecuador, China, Spain, Argentina or Austria.

When: From 5 to 12 September

Where: Estepona, Marbella, Benahavis and Malaga.

The Fair in Mijas Pueblo takes place in honour of its patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña, with an extensive program of activities with culture, music and sports for all ages.

XIX Festival Luna Mora in Guaro


Luna Mora GuaroThis typical Andalusian village of white houses situated between the Costa del Sol and Serrania de Ronda in the Natural Park of Sierra de las Nieves celebrates every year since 1997 a tribute to the Muslim, Christian and Jewish past of Al-Andalus.

Every year there are different artists featuring music and dance with Arabic, Andalusian, Sephardic, European and Mediterranean influences. Tourists and locals alike enjoy this great celebration in the streets and squares illuminated by 20,000 candles under the stars on a warm summer night. There is a wide range of crafts and cuisine and you can enjoy concerts in the Auditorium Luna Mora, workshops, storytelling, parades and more.

During the festival Luna Mora is enabled a large parking at the entrance of town for 1 €, and a free bus to the town.

When: 11 and 12 September, from 5 pm until dawn

Mijas TouristTourist day in Mijas Pueblo


Tourist Day is celebrated every year in Mijas Pueblo, taking advantage of the proximity of the World Tourism Day. There are musical performances, flamenco dancing and sweet wine tasting.

San Miguel Pilgrimage and Fair in Torremolinos

It is the most important urban Pilgrimage of Spain; most of the route runs through the town. It is celebrated the last or second last Sunday in September, prior to the Fair. Considered as National Tourist Interest, the Pilgrimage of Torremolinos has an average attendance of over two hundred thousand people. Many of the opulently decorated carts are pulled by oxen; there are traditional Andalusian costumes and adorned horses.

The pilgrimage goes to Pinares de Los Manantiales and from there to the Hermitage of San Miguel where the tour ends with a joyful atmosphere, good food, songs and Andalusian dances.

When: Pilgrimage September 20, 10 am to 4 pm. The Fair takes place during the following week.

Where: The pilgrimage passes through the streets of Torremolinos to Pinares de Los Manantiales and from there to Ermita de San Miguel.

Course of the Pilgrimage:

Avenida de los Manantiales, Plaza Costa del Sol, Avenida Palma de Mallorca, Avenida Joan Miro, Calle Rafael Quintana Rosado, Carretera de Benalmadena, Cruce del Pozuelo.
