Leaving Almuñécar in the direction of Granada,
the valley of the Río Verde enjoys a special micro-climate,
sheltered by the mountains. The river owes its name: "Green
River" to the thick, green cover of its subtropical crops.
At only 8 kms up a gentel climb is Jete, near to which is
a chapel carved into the mountainside, dedicated to the Virgen
de las Aguas. This is where the Romans beagn the construction
of the aqueduct that carried water to Almuñécar.
Four kms further on we climb to Otivar, with splendid views
of the mountains, and lastly, following a winding road up
we arrive at Lentegí, a picturesque and historic village,
at 631 metres altitude, from which beautiful views can be
enjoyed.
