Named alter the whales which pass nearby, Costa Ballena is Jose-Maria Olazabal's second golf course design in Andalucia.
He has provided a long layout with enormous tees and large greens. Water comes into play on a number of the holes and on the par-3 16th the green is an island virtually marooned by a lake.
The club has also opened a further nine holes, making it 27 in all.
Costa Ballena is part of a rapidly growing 800 - acre estate located on a wide expanse of Atlantic white sandy beach in Rota.
There is an enormous practice range and a handsome nine - hole short course.
