One of the many attractions offered by the Costa del Sol city of Fuengirola is its unique Zoo, specifically called Bioparc Fuengirola. This enclosure, which is located in the city centre and a only few meters from the Mediterranean sea, is outstanding for its design and a different approach to the typical Zoo, defined as "Zoo-Immersion", which facilitates both the animals a natural habitat where they can live as well as the visitor a feeling of walking through tropical forests.
Taking advantage of the mild climate of the Costa del Sol and the subtropical vegetation growing here, this park has specialized in the tropical forest ecosystem with its many and varied inhabitants of birds, mammals and reptiles living in Madagascar, Equatorial Africa and Southeast Asia.
Recently has been expanded the area of the Indo-Pacific and among the new inhabitants are outstanding the impressive Komodo Dragon reaching 3 meters in length and 150 kilograms in weight and the giant tortoises of the Galapagos Islands that can weigh 350 kg and live over 150 years.
Both Bioparc Fuengirola and Bioparc Valencia belong to a private company promoting this new model of zoo based on respect for nature and the preservation of the species, a model that has become a European benchmark.
Bioparc Fuengirola offers visitors free guided tours throughout the day at different times. During the summer months of July and August, when the opening hours are extended until late at night, visitors can enjoy the magic of a night in tropical forests.
The site also has a children's area with a large play area for younger visitors, and two restaurant areas with large terraces with restaurant, café, burger, pizza, ice cream and fast food.
