WARNING!!!
Just want warn everyone about Malaga Car. As with most car rental companies, they reserve an amount in your credit/ debit card that covers the excess. The problem is that they DO NOT then cancel this 'reservation' so you end up with a large sum on your card that cannot be used.
After OVER THREE WEEKS and despite many , many calls to them (once where they just hung up!) my boyfriend still has over 8000 SEK (over £650) reserved on his card!
This has now been taken up with the bank.

I used Malagacar for the first time in April after reading good reports about it and noting that the car "will be in superb working order and spotlessly clean". I added the full pack rate as we'd never used the company before. We collected the car on 15 April and noticed after leaving the airport the petrol gauge was under half. On 17 April I noticed the 'service required within 25 working days' sign and on 10 April the oil warning light came on. The exterior and interior of the car was, indeed, 'spotlessly clean' when we collected it but on lifting the bonnet to check the oil, I found the engine compartment filthy and obviously it hadn't been opened for some considerable time and had not been checked before I collected it. The water coolant bottle was just on the minimum level, the oil just touched the bottom of the dip stick - about a centimetre under the minimum indicator. My wife rang Malagacar who asked us to add some oil and they would refund us. I added the oil on three separate occasions to make sure I didn't add too much. We called in at Malagacar on 29 April and left the receipt and credit card receipt for €10.50 with reception and the pleasant lady there said it would be credited to my credit card. We returned the car which thenrequired a service within 5 days on 6 May. I am still waiting the the €10.50 to be credited to my credit card. The cost of the oil is not high but we probably spent half a day in total of our holiday doing Malagacar's job. Would I use Malagacar again? Maybe but I would insist on seeing under the bonnet before accepting the car.

Dear customer,
Thanks for your email. We are sorry you were not happy with the car and I will check who checked and cleaned the car. You are right the car had to be rented in perfect conditions. Is not usual this happen but this time we made a mistake. About the fuel, I will ask the account department because I can see a note left by my colleague Montse and that amount will be refunded.

3 stars for Malagacar.com. Pick-up service was not good, but the rest was OK. 5 stars for Startpackage - a perfect service for late arrival in Malaga. We started the first day in Spain with bacon and eggs :-). All food was fresh and cold in the bag. We were greeted by one of the owners (Kim), who had our start package at the car rental office. Will definitely use the startpackage again.

I am very unhappy with the level of service for my car hire 26/2-04/03. My credit card was charged for the excess amount at the time of collecting the car, and after returning the car it took six emails over the space of a month to get the amount refunded (there was no damage to the car whatsoever). It took the bookkeeping staff until the third volley of emails to even realise what they were doing wrong, and as a result of the delay it cost us nearly 50 euros extra on our credit card. The last email I had on the topic said that the manager would look at the problem, and Alberto was CC'd, but that was on 02/04 and still no response. Extremely disappointing as the car hire itself was not bad, but the back office administration needs to provide proper support to customers.

Awful service! we booked a car long before the trip. We were travelling with kids, so needed a big and comfortable car. When we arrived in Malaga, we spent a lot of time trying to get the car, but it was not available. I am very much dissatisfied.

Dear customer,
Thanks for your words. We are sorry you were not satisfied. The car booked by you was not returned by the previous customer so this is why was not available. My colleague Miguel tried to help you and gave you other options but all them were declined.

I have used Malaga car for years, every month, and receive great service, fantastic discount ( 20% due to regular hire) and superb cars. BUT the new basic rate 70km mileage limit is a bad change in my view. 70km is about 40 minutes driving on the motorway??? Per day??? Please review this new policy as I am certain it will make us, the customers, look at other options. Others have unlimited mileage on basic rates. Please review this new change of details. PR

Dear customer,
Thanks for your email. For customers who drive a lot we offer a really competitive offer which name is COMFORT PACK or FULL PACK offer with a fully comprehensive insurance without excess. You are right other companies can offer a basic pack with unlimited kilometre but, How much is when You have to pay for the car + refuelling fee + an expensive fuel rate?

In the past we have used other car hire companies until we discovered Malagacar.com, since we did which was about six or seven years ago we have used no one else. The transfer is quick and efficient, the check in payment process straightforward and the cars top notch, now when we visit the area we would never consider using anyone but, Malagacar.com.

Extremely poor and costly experience! A truck delivering goods to the hotel I stayed at, scratched the bumper of the parked rental car. The truck driver accepted the responsibillity. When delivering the car back, I showed the injury report to Malaga representatives together with documentation of old damages to the bumper. Everything is okey was the answer. Later I experienced that Malaga Car had withdrawn the deposit of 1200 EUR. 2 months have past and Malaga Car is claiming that the third party insurance company isn't responding. So, Malaga Car is putting all the burden on their customer which is not a part of the insurance case. I have now reported the case to the credit card company. An extremely bad experience!

Dear customer,
Thanks for your comment. When you booked the car you didn’t like to have Full insurance so you must understand you are responsible for any damage made to the car, up to excess cost. In this case, you say the damage was made by another person and you gave us the details so we are waiting the insurance company take the responsibility. As soon they admit the responsibility, We will refund you the damage cost. Please believe me we do not leave the case aside.

Malagacar.com WHEELCHAIR USER. Smooth communication beforehand. Good price. However, what was very disappointing was the meeting place at the airport. Poorly communicated. I called the office twice. After a lot of searching and asking, I finally found the "contact lady" at the airport. Apparently she had not received a phone call from the company that we were looking for her. She directed us halfway to the pick-up place. She assured us that the van was wheelchair accessible, which turned out not to be the case at all. After some phone calls, the company itself came to the airport to pick us up. The car (Kia SUV) did not meet our needs - too high - but without any problems we got a better fitting car later at the depot (Seat Leon station wagon). We had chosen the "full pack vip" formula and in no time the papers were arranged. The other customers had to wait patiently for their turn. It could also have been better and clearer in the contact with the company that the pick-up place was mentioned as "buses de cortesia". It would have saved us a lot of time. The other customers also had to do such a search...
