GRANADA AND CADIZ
ITINERARY: Corpus Christi Fair, Granada. Algeciras Fair. Sunday bullfights at El puerto de Santa María.
During June, the principal bullfights in Andalusia are held around the celebration of Corpus Christi, with five bullfights held in Granada during its fair. The bullring in Granada built in 1880 in the neo-mudejar style attacts good bullfighters and the public is festive and amiable. After the third bull there is a sort of "half-time" during which the public enjoys a snack. This feature is not exclusive to Granada and contributes in no mean way to disconcert the newcomer abd ti disturb the bullfighters and their "cuadrillas":, who see how the people regale themselves, while they ignore what the immediate future holds in store for them.
Algeciras in the province of Cádiz, has a bullring built in 1868 where excellent corridas are held. The fair is held from 14 to 21 June. The critics say Algeciras is very bullfighcouncious and the fact is that it is becoming more significant every year, as corroborated by the mass presence there for the media.
Joselito said "Who has not seen bulls at El Puerto, ignores what a day's bullfighting is", and is engraved on a plaque at the entrance to the bullring at El Puerto de Santa Maria, a town in the province of Cádiz, the during June , July and August holds bullfights as if its fair lasted all summer. There is a corrida nearly every Sunday and apart from the results, the luminositym the "air", as bullfighters say, of the bullring and the disposition of the public, make it a pleasant afternoon.
