Summer Bullrings Tour

If you are in Andalusia in July, August or early September and want to see a corrida, these are the fairs that usually still have a poster: La Linea de la Concepcion in July, Huelva’s Colombinas at the turn of July and August, Malaga’s August fair, Almeria at the end of August, and Ronda’s Goyesca at the beginning of September. They are not a circuit. Choose the town that matches your hotel.

The Costa del Sol rings — Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona, Torremolinos, Mijas — do not put on a “great number of tourist corridas”. Bullring in Andalusia

La Linea de la Concepcion

Midsummer on the Bay of Gibraltar. La Linea’s July fair (Velada y Fiestas) usually fills the middle of the month — in recent years around 11–20 July. The bullfights sit on some of those days, not on every day between the 10th and the 20th. The ring is the Plaza del Arenal, opened in 1883, about 7,000 seats, a 49-sided polygon. From the town you see the Rock; that is the setting, not a promise about the cartel.

The public is a feria crowd: noisy, local, mixed with day-trippers from Gibraltar. Treat it as a July fair town, not as a first-rank plaza. Town page: La Linea de la Concepcion.

Huelva — Fiestas Colombinas

Huelva’s summer date is the Fiestas Colombinas, tied to the departure of Columbus. The civic fair sits at the end of July and the beginning of August — not a locked start on 3 August. The ring is La Merced, opened in 1902. There are not “up to six bullfights a year with the best names”. In a normal Colombinas you get one or two afternoons. Malaga city — Feria de Agosto

La Malagueta, on Paseo de Reding by the sea, opened on 11 June 1876. It is a first-category ring: official top rank. The city fair is the Feria de Agosto, built around 19 August (the day Malaga commemorates the Christian conquest). In 2026 the civic fair runs 15–22 August; the bullfights at La Malagueta start a little earlier and run through that week. “Feria del Sur de Europa” is a tourist nickname for the same city fair, not a separate taurine event.

An ear cut in Malaga is a trophy the president of the fight may award after a good performance. It is not automatic, and it is not a tourist souvenir. Come for the week of the fair if you want a full abono; come any day if you only want to see the building. Detail: Malaga bullrings.

The Costa del Sol rings

These plazas sit in resort towns. That does not mean they stage a corrida every summer week. Puerto Banus has no bullring; the Marbella plaza is the one that serves that coast. Benalmadena has a town fair in August, not a regular summer cycle of fights.

Ronda — early September

The Goyesca is one afternoon, not a summer-long festival. It falls on the Saturday of the Feria de Pedro Romero, usually the first weekend of September, in the Real Maestranza de Ronda. Bullfighters wear eighteenth-century dress taken from Goya’s pictures. In 2026 it is billed for 5 September, after two years of works on the ring. Tickets go early. Town: Ronda. Map

Almeria

The old itinerary listed Almeria and then said nothing. The city’s fair is the Feria de la Virgen del Mar, at the end of August — in 2026 the bullfights sit around 27–29 August. The plaza is on Avenida Vilchez. It is the eastern end of the Andalusian summer, a long drive from the Costa del Sol. Go if you are already in Almeria; do not add it to a Malaga week as an afterthought.

How to reach the summer rings

La Malagueta is a city walk or a short taxi. The Costa rings sit on the A-7. La Linea is the far west of the coast, past Gibraltar. Huelva and Almeria are province-sized drives. Ronda is the mountain road from San Pedro or from Malaga inland. A car helps if you want Ronda and the coast in the same trip. A transfer is enough for a single afternoon at La Malagueta.

Car hire: the flexible option

Useful for Ronda, Antequera, La Linea or Huelva. After a 19:00 corrida the last bus along the coast is the risk, not the first.

Other options

Cercanias and coaches cover the Costa towns. Coaches run to Ronda, La Linea and Huelva from Malaga or Seville. Almeria is a train or a long A-7. Sleep in the town you are watching.

Practical tips

Pay for sombra (the shaded side) in August. Sol on the Costa is the late sun off the sea.
La Malagueta tickets come from the official taquilla or the current company. Street sellers on Paseo de Reding are not a shortcut.
Do not plan a “tourist corrida” in Benalmadena or Puerto Banus. Those names are the resort, not the ring.
The Goyesca is one Saturday. Book the room in Ronda before you think about a same-day return.
A corrida is a blood spectacle. If that is not what you want, visit the empty Malagueta and the oval ring in Mijas.
Dress for a city fair, not the beach, even when the plaza is 200 metres from the sand.

Frequently asked questions about summer bullfights

Do I need to follow a summer itinerary?

No. Match the town to the week you are already here. July is La Linea and often Estepona; late July and early August are Huelva; mid-August is Malaga; late August is Almeria; early September is Ronda.

Is there a bullring in Puerto Banus?

No. Puerto Banus is Marbella’s marina. The plaza is the Marbella bullring, inland from the port. Fights there are not guaranteed every August.

Will I find corridas every week on the Costa del Sol?

No. Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona and Torremolinos may hold one fair date. Mijas is mainly a building to visit. La Malagueta in August is the only dense week on this coast.

What is an “ear” in Malaga?

After a strong performance the president of the fight can award one or two ears from the bull as a trophy. It is a judgement on that afternoon, not a souvenir you buy at the gate.

Is the Goyesca a summer-long festival?
