Palos de la Frontera is a municipality in Huelva which has been very closely linked in history with the discovery of America as it was from the port of this town where Christopher Columbus left for the New World.
Palos de la Frontera is of recent origin; the city was founded in the late fourteenth and century reached its plenitude in the late fifteenth century. It is known to be the port from where Columbus left for the discovery of America and thus is part of the route of discovery.

- San Jorge Church
From this church were notified some residents of the municipality to prepare two caravels to start the journey along with Christopher Columbus.
- Museum House Martín Alonso Pinzon
To visit this museum you have to make an appointment in the city hall of Palos.
- La Fontanilla
Next to this public spring is situated the Pier from where left the expedition; it was the only public spring in Palos and it is said that the three vessels were supplied with water.
- Muelle de la Calzadilla
This pier was constructed to commemorate the fourth centenary of the discovery of America and was restored in the late twentieth century; is the port where Christopher Columbus set off bound for America.
- Monastery of La Rábida
This monastery is located on the road to Huelva and played an important role in the voyage of Christopher Columbus.
- You can visit Mazagon Beach where you'll find a Marina which has modern facilities.
If you want to participate in a celebration or event related to the discovery of America please visit Palos de la Frontera around March 15 and visit the medieval Discovery Fair; a fair during which the town is transformed into a typical village of the fourteenth century and which takes place during the first weekend after the 15th of March.
From Malaga, take the A-49 road towards Seville to go to Huelva; without abandoning the A-49, take the exit towards Moguer and the Airport San Juan; after passing by Moguer you arrive at Palos de la Frontera.
