Recommended Parks in Benalmadena & Torremolinos

Join us on a walk through the parks of Malaga! This time we are going to visit the beautiful urban green spaces: The parks of Benalmadena and Torremolinos.

Throughout the municipalities of the Costa del Sol you can find an interesting number of parks where you can enjoy a walk with your family and children or read a book under the shade of a tree.

Parque de la Paloma – Benalmadena

The Parque de la Paloma is probably one of the most beautiful parks in the province of Malaga. In fact, for now it is the largest ‘urban’ green area of the whole Costa del Sol, only 700 metres from the beach.

Family park

This large green lung covers an area of more than 200,000 m2. It is a beautiful park with many walking paths and a large artificial lake. It is ideal for the whole family as there are not only play areas but also a mini-zoo.

Children will love the close-up view of peacocks, chickens, ducks, swans, turtles and rabbits in semi-freedom. In addition to a children’s play area there are outdoor gymnastics sections around the lake.

The park has several entrances and is large, making it perfect for long, leisurely strolls.

In terms of flora, there is a wide variety of tree species and there are many shady spots that make the park an ideal urbanite place to even have a picnic.

There is also a nice section of cacti and succulents in the park, as well as other surprises to be discovered along the paths.

Other activities in the park

The park also hosts many events throughout the year such as the Holi Festival in March/April or the Collector’s Plant Fair (18-20 April 2025).

The open-air Municipal Auditorium is also situated within the Parque de la Paloma. The place hosts many cultural activities. Especially in the summer season you can enjoy musicals, theatre and concerts. It is the place where the annual Benalmadena Summer Festival takes place.

Parque de la Batería – Torremolinos

parques Benalmádena y Torremolinos

La Batería Park is the green lung of Torremolinos. It is located in the Montemar Alto neighbourhood, about 600 metres from the popular La Carihuela beach. Due to its elevated location, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views from there.

Precisely because of this location, the space was historically occupied by a defensive coastal battery, from which it takes its name. You can still see the artillery cannons and two underground bunkers are also preserved.

This green space of more than 74,000 square metres has now been recovered for urban recreation next to the sea. From its lookout tower you can enjoy one of the best panoramic views of Torremolinos.

Attractions in the park

One of the attractions of the Parque de la Batería is its large artificial lake of over 9,000 square metres. There is a boat rental service for the modest price of 1 euro per half hour.

Other elements that add a charming touch are a beautiful Venetian-style merry-go-round and a Pacifier Tree. It is an old olive tree from which dozens of pacifiers hang from its branches. It is a peculiar tree and one of the few in Spain where children can leave their dummies when they decide to take the big step towards growing up.

The park also has an open-air stage in the form of an amphitheatre. Numerous cultural activities and concerts, festivals and shows are held there throughout the year.

For the more active park visitors there are several sports areas, a cycle path and a running track.

For the ‘little hunger’: There is no cafeteria in the park. There is a small kiosk next to the children’s playground and there are numerous drinking fountains.

New panoramic lift

A new attraction in the park, which is also extremely practical, is the new panoramic lift inaugurated in January 2025.

New panoramic lift

It is an outdoor lift almost 30 metres high with a panoramic cabin that connects Montemar Alto with Avenida Carlota Alessandri, a short walk from the beach. In this way, the great slope between the two districts has been solved, which made it much longer to reach the Batería park.

In this way, has also been created a new entrance from the beach. The lift, with a capacity for 8 people, connects the park via a 60-metre walkway. Do you dare to cross it? The opening hours of the lift will be the same as the opening hours of the park. The price is 1€.
