This area that was known for its wine in the past, lies in the northern part of the province. At present, wine production is very limited, only some thousand of litres a year.
Admirers of ecological wines might find something to their taste here. Most of the vineyards are found around Espiel and Villaviciosa de Cordoba whereas before they used to reach all the way to the gates of Cordoba itself.
In the past, the well known "de balsa" wines were produced; nowadays the wine is white and light, and very similar to the wine from La Mancha.
