Cliffs of Maro-Cerro Gordo

This natural area located along the coastline has a total length of about 12 kilometres along which we can enjoy beautiful views of the cliffs that characterize it and its beautiful and isolated beaches.

If you decide on some of these routes during the warmer months, we recommend going equipped with goggles to enjoy not only the scenery that is above sea level, but underwater flora and fauna as well as orange coral populations and other endangered animals.

The main hiking trails include the following:

Torre de Maro

This little excursion of about 3 kilometres length will take us along an itinerary that includes the remains of a watchtower in the past responsible for the defence of the coast.

If we drive along the N-340 highway (along the coast) we find an exit just after passing the town of Maro; we take this exit and that will start our journey after parking the car.

Following the path along the top, we get to a lookout with views of the villages of Maro and Nerja after which, if we continue ascending, we reach the tower of Maro.

Following the path and on the next summit we can spot an abandoned house until finally we will arrive at a small cove where we can cool off after the hike and even continue to enjoy the scenery, this time underwater.

Always oriented toward the beach, we will continue until we reach a small meadow where we can take a break and take some nice pictures.

Following the same direction the road will begin to disappear and there starts a descend with a little more difficulty after which we come to a creek that we have to follow until the beach, where we can continue to enjoy the underwater flora and fauna.
