Jerez del Marquesado is located within the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada on its the northern side. If you visit the area we recommend a stroll through its narrow streets of whitewashed buildings and which also offers a wide variety of tourist attractions such as forest walks and excursions.
It is known from the remains found that different civilizations and settlements that have populated the area from prehistoric times have benefited from mining. Some of the places we recommend to visit are remnants of these civilizations.

From the Andalusian period, this castle is located next to Canyon Alhori and preserves remains of its walls and several towers.
These Arab bathrooms are situated in the basement of a building dating back to the centuries XII-XIV.
This recreation area is located 10 kilometres from Jerez del Marquesado and is the starting point of many hiking trails.
Sulayr, which means "Mountain of the Sun 'which is the original name of Sierra Nevada is the name that is currently given to a great circular trail of about 300 km, the main axis of the network of trails that we can find at the Nature Park.
This path starting in the village ascends towards Puerto Trevelez; an excursion in which to enjoy a typical mountain landscape.

To get to this trail we have to leave the village just before getting to the river and take the road of Granada.
If we drive we have to get to Refugio Postero Alto from the village along the paved runway; we can reach on foot from the village along a path that ascends to Refugio Postero.
The trail of Sulayr is High Mountain so we recommend having checked the weather forecast in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises.
The tour gives us views of the surrounding mountains as Baza, La Sagra and Cazorla among others.

Starting point: Refugio Postero
Destination: Refugio de Peña Partida
This route will give us spectacular views from about 2000 m altitude. During our tour we will cross streams, canyons, meadows and old roads that connected Marquesado with the Alpujarra.

To get to Jerez del Marquesado from Malaga we can either drive along the coastal road to Motril where we take direction towards Granada or we can drive direction towards Antequera, Loja and Granada on the A-92. We drive through the Natural Park Sierra de Huetor to Guadix, where we take the route south to Jerez del Marquesado.
