Ubrique information

This town in the province of Cadiz is part of the so-called White Villages route and is located at the entrance of the Natural Parks of Alcornocales and Grazalema. Ubrique is a perfect place from which to perform various hiking trails and enjoy a healthy natural environment; its old town has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest.

About Ubrique

In the area comprising Ubrique where found remains of an ancient Roman city and a fortress that was built during the Arab domination, today known as Castillo de Fatima. Ubrique was conquered by Christian armies during the year 1485 and in the eighteenth century were installed several leather factories, which was going to be the beginning of their industry, having now one of the most important leather industries throughout Europe.

Among the monuments that you can visit in this town of Cadiz there are: Fatima castle from the 12th century

This castle suffered throughout its history many sieges and its present ruins tell about its intense past. Surely its origin is pre-Islamic and it’s a recommended visit when you are in the area.

Fountain of Nine Pipes, of Arabic origin
Pure and clear water that reaches a network of numerous fountains in Ubrique, among which is outstanding this fountain.

Hiking routes
Another option you have is to do any of the hiking trails from Ubrique; you can even find a Roman road with beautiful views of the town and Sierra de Grazalema; this route connects Benaocaz and Villaluenga.

Remember that the hiking routes can have an irregular course, thus we recommend you bring suitable footwear.

How to get to Ubrique

There are two ways to reach Ubrique, one of the routes includes passing by Ronda until the Grazalema Natural Park, while the other path leads to Manilva where you take the road heading north, passing through the villages of Gaucin and Algatocin.

The travel time is almost identical in both routes and it will take just over two hours to get there from Malaga.
