Navalcaballo - Ascent to El Espino

The hiking route from Navalcaballo to El Espino is a journey through the captivating landscapes of the Sierra de Segura in Jaen. Starting Point: Navalcaballo

Navalcaballo is a peaceful location surrounded by lush pine forests. The forest house in Navalcaballo serves as a tranquil retreat and the ideal starting point for our hike. The trail begins here, heading towards Siles. The route is well-marked and offers a gentle introduction before the climb becomes more demanding.

Leaving Navalcaballo (location), we head towards Siles. Just before reaching the crossroads leading to Segura de la Sierra, we take a forest track on the right. The ascent starts gently, passing through a junction on the right. The trail rounds the Calar del Espino, gradually climbing higher and offering glimpses of the stunning landscape below.

Shortly after beginning our ascent, we encounter a forest house. This is a good spot to take a short break, hydrate, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Continuing from here, the path meanders through dense pine forests, providing a cool and shaded walk, especially welcome during warmer months.

The trail continues with another junction to the right, and further on, yet another right turn. These turns lead us to a plateau near the summit. From this plain, the final leg of the journey involves a steeper climb to the highest of the three peaks of El Espino, located to the north. This part of the hike demands more effort, but the reward at the summit is well worth it.

El Espino Summit

At 1,722 metres, El Espino offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Sierra de Segura. The summit provides a unique vantage point to observe the diverse topography of the region, including valleys, ridges, and forested areas. It’s an excellent spot for photography, meditation, and simply soaking in the natural beauty.
