Andujar - Virgen de las Cabezas Sanctuary

This route from Andujar to the Virgen de las Cabezas Sanctuary offers a journey through the stunning landscapes of Jaen, blending natural beauty with cultural heritage. The path takes you through serene reservoirs, historical villages, and picturesque meadows, culminating in a visit to the revered sanctuary.

Starting the Journey

From Andujar, we head towards the Marmolejo reservoir. Walking around its right side leads us to the village of Santa Mari. This segment of the hike involves passing straight through several junctions, offering a smooth beginning to our adventure.

Lugar Nuevo

From Santa Mari, we continue to Lugar Nuevo along a well-preserved track. This part of the route crosses some meadows where bulls are bred, providing a glimpse into the traditional pastoral practices of the region.

El Encinarejo Reservoir to the Sanctuary

Leaving Lugar Nuevo, we proceed to the road leading to the sanctuary, with El Encinarejo reservoir on our right. This section of the hike offers beautiful views of the reservoir and the surrounding landscape.

Virgen de las Cabezas Sanctuary

From the sanctuary, the perspective is excellent, offering panoramic views of the region. The sanctuary itself is a site of great cultural interest, especially during its festival, which attracts numerous visitors and pilgrims each year.
