The Mining Basin of Riotinto has great natural attractions and you can find interesting itineraries as Via Verde of Riotinto, an itinerary that starting from Zalamea la Real runs along the former route of 1873 for the use of an adapted mine train so that it can be covered on foot.
The region of the Rio Tinto Mining Basin shows a landscape that looks like something from another planet, certainly a worthwhile visit and where have been recorded numerous documentaries.
One of the recommended itineraries starts in the village Zalamea along the Via Verde beginning at the old train station Buitron and going to the Rio Tinto mines.
The route is highly recommended by the beauty of its mining landscape which reminds us of a not too distant past when this was the main activity and economic engine of the region.
- The difficulty of this route is easy and there is little gradient all the way.
- The duration is approximately 2 hours.
