Solar eclipse in Malaga on August 12
A total solar eclipse will be visible in northern Spain. In Malaga, it will appear as a very deep partial eclipse, meaning coverage will range between 90% and 99%.
The event will begin late in the afternoon on August 12, 2026, around 7:30 pm, reaching totality at 8:30 pm.
At that time, the sun will already be quite low on the horizon, so an unobstructed viewing spot will be necessary. The total eclipse will last for 1 hour and 44 minutes.

Art Encounters – Genalguacil
The beautiful white village of Genalguacil is hosting a new edition of its art gatherings. Every two years, in August, this small village of barely 400 inhabitants invites national and international artists to live alongside the locals and create art that is subsequently installed permanently in the streets and squares. Over the years, Genalguacil has thus transformed into an open-air museum.

The art gatherings take place from August 1st to 15th. There will be over 50 activities. On the weekend of August 8th and 9th, an agricultural and artisan market will be held at Plaza de la Constitución, alongside musical evenings.

Festival “Old Havana” – Mijas Pueblo
From August 6 to 9, the central Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Pueblo will host a new edition of the “Habana Vieja” Festival.
During this time, the square will be specially decorated to evoke the streets of Old Havana. There will be food stalls serving traditional Cuban cuisine, as well as live music featuring tributes to famous Cuban artists.
The event will begin at 6 pm each day, and to make it easier for visitors to arrive, a shuttle bus service will run from La Cantera to the village centre.

Arab Souk – Benalmadena
Benalmadena Pueblo will host a traditional, colorful Arab Souk featuring over 40 artisan stalls, live workshops, performances, gastronomy and open-air music.
Over the course of four days, visitors can enjoy street parades, daily Sephardic music concerts, birds-of-prey shows, workshops on henna and Arabic calligraphy, live woodcarving demonstrations and activities for children.

Moon and Salt Night – Casares
On August 14, the second edition of the “Moon and Salt Night” (Noche de Luna y Sal) will take place beside the iconic Torre de Sal (Salt Tower), featuring the glow of thousands of candles by the sea.
Starting at 10 pm, the site will transform into a unique setting illuminated by thousands of candles, hosting a piano concert accompanied by string instruments.
Admission is free. A new feature this year is a capacity limit of 2,000 people. Invitations (limited to a maximum of 3 tickets) must be collected in person at the following municipal offices: Casares Costa (Casares Costa Mayor’s Office) and Casares Pueblo (Blas Infante Birthplace, Calle Carrera).

White Party – Nerja
The White Party in Nerja is traditionally held every August 14th at El Salón Beach. It is one of the summer’s most iconic nights, featuring an Ibiza-style atmosphere where locals and tourists alike enjoy an evening by the sea, dressed entirely in white.

Candlelight Night – Vélez-Málaga
The historic centre of Vélez-Málaga will be illuminated by the light of 10,000 candles during this evening event that begins at sunset.
On August 29th, from 8 pm to 3 am, the streets of the historic centre will be illuminated by thousands of candles, hosting an extensive program of live music, performances, and cultural activities in museums, churches, and along the fortress walls.
There will also be flamenco, street parades, musical tributes, an artisan market, and a flash mob featuring older adults in the Plaza de la Constitución, to name just a few highlights.

Malaga Fair
It is one of the most popular fairs in Andalusia and one of the city’s most popular events. This year, it takes place from August 15 to 22.
The Malaga Fair is one of the liveliest and most popular, attracting a large number of local and visiting revelers each year who enjoy plenty of music, dancing, and ice-cold Cartojal to beat the heat.
The fair takes place in the streets of the historic centre during the day, then moves to the fairgrounds at night, where the party continues until dawn.

Benalmadena Fair
The fair in honor of the Virgen de la Cruz, the patron saint of Benalmadena Pueblo, will take place from August 14 to 18.
Pilgrimage
The pilgrimage in honor of the Virgen de la Cruz will be held beforehand on Sunday, August 4, departing from Plaza de Andalucía at 11 am and arriving at Casablanca Rustic Park around 1 pm.
This traditional event will feature musical performances, carriage driving competitions and a free communal paella.
Fair
As with all fairs in Malaga, there is a daytime fair at Plaza de las Tres Culturas and a nighttime fair at the Los Nadales fairgrounds.
Both locations feature an extensive live music program.
Children’s Day will be celebrated on August 15, with rides offered at affordable prices.
Additionally, the ‘Inclusive Fair’ for people with functional and/or sensory disabilities includes an information point offering hearing protection headsets, identification wristbands, a sensory-friendly area, and a nursing room.

Charity Golf Championship – Marbella
Rio Real Golf & Hotel Marbella, one of the Costa del Sol’s premier golf courses, is hosting the 5th Charity Golf Championship on Saturday, August 22nd. The event is organized by the Cautivo Santa Marta Marbella brotherhood and sponsored by Fuerte Hoteles (El Fuerte Marbella). The championship aims to raise funds to finance the Holy Week procession and the gilding of the new Cautivo float.
The tournament will follow an Individual Stableford format, with a shotgun start at 9:30 am.

Sandwich Festival – Fuengirola
The second edition of this “gastronomic and musical festival” returns to the unbeatable seaside setting of Marenostrum Fuengirola.

Mount Calamorro Open-Air Planetarium – Benalmadena
From July 21 to August 31, visitors can take advantage of the Benalmádena Cable Car’s extended summer evening hours, remaining open until 11 pm.
At the summit of Mount Calamorro – the end of the cable car route – you can enjoy stunning night views of the coast from nearly 800 meters above sea level.
Additionally, there will be an open-air planetarium session at 9:45 pm, where you can explore the night sky guided by an expert astronomer.
It is a wonderful idea if you are in or near Benalmadena. The cable car departure point is located just a few metre from the local commuter train station. The ride from the base to the summit takes about 15 minutes.

Light of the Moon – Antequera
Antequera will once again host a new edition of ‘Luz de Luna’ this summer. The event typically runs throughout the summer months, from July 1st to September 30th, combining culture, history, music, gastronomy, and nature.

Festival of the Three Cultures – Frigiliana
The famous white village of Frigiliana hosts the Three Cultures Festival over the course of four days. During this time, the village transforms into a model of peaceful coexistence that transcends beliefs and religions.
This village in the Axarquía region is known as the “Town of the Three Cultures” due to the various civilizations that have passed through its streets: Arab, Jewish, and Christian.
An extensive program featuring musical performances, lectures, and gastronomic events will take place in the streets; the lineup is rounded out by activities, street parades, music, juggling, fakir acts, belly dancing, and children’s activities, alongside a traditional market.
The festival features stages hosting Arab and Sephardic music, and the schedule is completed by concerts and a pyromusical show.

Street Market – Puerto Banus (Marbella)
The Puerto Banus street market is one of the most popular on the Costa del Sol. It takes place every Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm and is located in Nueva Andalucía, between Avenida Pilar Calvo (next to the bullring) and Centro Plaza.
It is an open-air market that blends a traditional atmosphere with the area’s characteristic sophistication. It stands out for offering a wide variety of items, such as fashion and accessories, handicrafts and décor, jewelry and fresh produce.

Artisan Market – Cártama
The first Sunday of every month takes place a craft market in Cártama, featuring a wide variety of unique, handmade items, as well as local food products.
The market is located in the park of the Los Naranjos residential area, next to the Cártama train station market, and is open from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Monthly Market – Corumbela, Axarquía
Fancy exploring the upper Axarquía region of Malaga and combining your route with a visit to a local market?
Corumbela, with fewer than 300 inhabitants, is one of the highest villages in the Axarquía, situated at an altitude of 632 metres. This height affords magnificent views in every direction. There are viewpoints from which you can even see the Mediterranean Sea.
That said, the market in Corumbela is held every first Wednesday of the month in the town’s only square, where you can find local products, crafts, homemade sweets, clothing or accessories and discover authentic creations and flavours. The next market is on March 4th.

Dramatised night-time tours at the Automobile Museum – Malaga

Ham Music Festival – Estepona
From 7 to 16 August, the largest tasting of ham and Iberian products in Spain returns to Estepona’s Paseo Marítimo, this year in its 11th edition.
Visitors can discover the best companies dedicated to the production of ham and its derivatives, with 65 exhibitors along the promenade.
You will be able to buy Iberian ham and other pork products, as well as cheeses and artisan breads. A magnificent opportunity to savour this exquisite delicacy in a privileged setting by the sea.

Little Italy Gastro Fest – Torremolinos
Although it is not a culinary festival with purely Malaga roots, we are including it here – just in case you feel like taking a culinary trip to Italy for a few hours.
The Little Italy Gastro Fest will transform the Torremolinos bullring into a grand Mediterranean Piazza on August 27 and 28. You can enjoy Italian cuisine accompanied by live music and DJ sets.
There are four distinct food areas: Pizza al Taglio (pizza by the slice), La Barra de la Nonna (fresh pasta), Dolce Italia (desserts), and Italian beverage bars serving Aperol Spritz.

Muscatel Grape Day – Iznate
Iznate, one of the White Villages of La Axarquía celebrates on the 8th of August its Day of the Muscatel Grape.
The village is known for the production of muscatel grapes and sultanas. During the months of August and September, the sultanas are harvested and dried.
This work in the fields traditionally begins with a feast of thanksgiving for the harvest to be gathered and a tribute to the Muscatel grape.

Wine Night – Competa
Also in this white village located in the upper Axarquia you can taste the centuries-old culture of the vine, although this time mainly in liquid form.
Every 15th of August the locals pay homage to their grapes and invite visitors to a tasting of Migas con bacalao, ensalada arriera, muscatel grapes and local wine. And of course there is no lack of traditional music to liven up the evening.

Tomato Festival – Coín
On the 13th and 14th of August Coín celebrates the Verbena Tomatera (Tomato Party) in honour of the Huevo de Toro tomato.
We have dedicated an entire article to the Huevo de Toro tomato, the most expensive tomato in Spain, produced exclusively in the Guadalhorce Valley, the so-called ‘Orchard of Malaga’. This tomato stands out not only for its exquisite flavour, but also for its considerable size and weight.
Mid-July marks the beginning of the harvest of the exquisite and highly coveted tomato that is only available in season.
Come to the Plaza Alameda in Coín and enjoy a tomato evening with musical performances and various tomato dishes to taste.
Gazpacho Festival – Alfarnatejo
This tiny white village situated 900 metres above sea level in the Axarquia region is also known as the ‘Pyrenees of the South’ because of its impressive mountain scenery. And another peculiarity of this municipality is its unique way of preparing the quintessential summer drink, the famous Andalusian Gazpacho.
Good reasons not to miss its festival dedicated to the typical refreshing drink of the countryside based on tomato, cucumber, pepper and olive oil. All this accompanied by traditional Verdiales and Flamenco performances.

The Burger Cup – Estepona
As a new addition to the summer program in Estepona, the town is hosting a new culinary event: The Burger Cup festival, taking place at the Bullring from August 11 to 16.
The Burger Cup is a traveling food event that brings together some of the country’s best burger joints in various Spanish cities. Over the course of several days, the event combines gastronomy, live music, and activities for all ages.

Marenostrum Fuengirola concerts this summer

Concerts Starlite Marbella this summer
One of the best open-air venues is Starlite Marbella. Every year it brings prestigious artists to intimate, boutique concerts in the unique setting of the Nagüeles Quarry in Marbella.
It features nearly 50 days of concerts during June, July, and August. Its lineup includes some of the most prominent artists in the music scene.

Candelight Concerts – Malaga
In the María Cristina Concert Hall, a 15th century Franciscan monastery located in the heart of Malaga, with exceptional acoustics and unique beauty.
Recently more and more unique venues in Malaga are joining this experience, such as the Carmen Thyssen Museum and now also the Gran Hotel Miramar.
We can personally recommend this experience of classical concerts and tributes by candlelight.

The OMA Sound festival takes place throughout the summer, featuring indie, electronic, reggaeton and pop music.
Formerly known as Oasisss Marbella Fest, it has rebranded as OMA Sound for its fourth edition this summer. The event remains at Finca Caridad, an open-air venue of over 80,000 square metres, complete with a food area, chill-out zone, attractions and VIP areas.

Dreambeach – Vélez-Málaga
This electronic music festival moves to the Costa del Sol this year to celebrate its 12th edition on July 31st and August 1st. It will take place at the Vélez-Málaga Fairgrounds and will feature four stages.
Dreambeach Costa del Sol confirms David Guetta for its premiere in Vélez-Málaga, which will feature the French artist’s exclusive “Monolith Show”.
The 2025 edition attracted over 90,000 attendees and featured top-tier artists such as Will Smith, Nathy Peluso, Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, Amelie Lens, and Indira Paganotto, among many others.

Summer Jazz Festival – Torremolinos
A new edition of the Summer Jazz Festival takes place during July and August, held outdoors at Parque de la Batería.
Jazz and live music lovers can enjoy a variety of genres and styles, such as contemporary jazz, big band, flamenco-jazz fusion, and vocal jazz and soul.
All concerts are free to attend and begin at 9:30 pm.

The weather in Malaga in August
August in Malaga is equivalent to summer in full swing: Endlessly blue skies, sun & beach.
August on the Costa del Sol also means a lot of heat. Daily temperatures can reach up to 35ºC and night-time temperatures do not go below 22ºC.
Very typical in Malaga in August is the high humidity which makes us sweat day and night.
Our tips
Remember to drink plenty of water and it is preferable not to do sport or “fry in the sun” in the central hours of the day. Remember that the sun is very strong, so always apply generously a sunscreen with a high protection factor. Your skin will thank you for it.
It is also typical of Malaga summer to have the occasional day with Terral wind which raises the temperature to well over 35ºC in the blink of an eye.

What clothes should I bring for Malaga in August?
You can bring your favourite summer clothes, flip-flops, sandals and sunscreen, you will need it.
Everything that is light and breathable.
Remember that in Malaga in august we have very high humidity, which means you are basically sweating all day long.
You can leave some room in your suitcase, you might want to buy a new item of clothing in the shopping centres on the Costa del Sol, which will always remind you of your holiday in Malaga.
