It is one of the most popular fairs in Andalusia and one of the most popular events in the city. The Malaga Fair takes place this year from 17 to 24 August.

The Malaga Fair is one of the liveliest and most popular fairs and attracts every year a large number of local and foreign visitors who enjoy lots of music, dancing and cold Cartojal to combat the high temperatures.

The fair takes place during the day in the streets of the historic centre and then moves at night to the fairgrounds where people continue to party until dawn.

Summer at los Cangrejos – Nerja

Enjoy the ‘Verano en los Cangrejos’ festival in Nerja returns this summer with more than 30 cultural events, scheduled from 31 July to 30 August.

Every day there will be a varied range of free, open-air shows in the Plaza de los Cangrejos for all the family: Flamenco, musicals, regional dances, jazz, dance academies, magic, choirs, children’s festivals, theatre and poetry.

Most of the performances start at 10 pm, with the exception of the Sunday children’s festivals, which take place at 9 pm.

The programme kicks off with the show Candlelight by the group Armony Dúo, which will present a candlelit piano performance in the Plaza de los Cangrejos. The full programme can be found on the attached poster.

Open air planetarium Monte Calamorro – Benalmádena

From 15th July to 31st August visitors can enjoy the Benalmádena Cable Car’s summer night timetable, which is extended until 11.15pm.

At the top of the Monte Calamorro, where the cable car route ends, not only will you be able to enjoy beautiful night-time views of the coast at almost 800 metres above the sea.

There will also be an open-air Planetarium at 9.45 pm where you can discover the night sky with an expert astronomer.

This is a beautiful idea if you are in Benalmádena or nearby. The cable car exit is located just a few metres from the local train station. The cable car ride from the base to the top takes about 15 minutes.

Espetos Competition – Torremolinos

On the beaches of Torremolinos takes place a new edition of the Espeteros contest in which the best Espeteros from all over the Costa del Sol take part: Málaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Manilva and Casares, Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez Málaga, Algarrobo, Torrox and Nerja.

The event is held on the 3rd of August and after the contest there will be a popular ‘espetada’ which every year attracts thousands of people.

If you are in Torremolinos, don’t miss out on tasting this typical Malaga delicacy.

Candelight Concerts Malaga

In the María Cristina Concert Hall, a 15th century Franciscan monastery located in the heart of Malaga, with exceptional acoustics and unique beauty.

The Summer Jazz Festival Torremolinos 2024 will take place in the Parque de la Batería and will be held during July and August with musicians from Germany, England, Cuba and Spain.

Ham Music Festival – Estepona

Iznate, one of the White Villages of La Axarquía celebrates on the 3rd of August its Day of the Muscatel Grape. The village is known for the production of muscatel grapes and sultanas. During the months of August and September, the sultanas are harvested and dried.

This work in the fields traditionally begins with a feast of thanksgiving for the harvest to be gathered and a tribute to the Muscatel grape.

There is a wide-ranging programme which includes a musical foam party, water games in the swimming pool, exhibitions, a documentary, a Flamenco night. There is also a craft market, a gastronomic route and musical performances.

El Torcal – The Ammonite Route

These guided tours take place at El Torcal de Antequera at sunset during the summer months.

El Torcal is a fantastic natural labyrinth of stones sculpted by erosion.

The famous white village Frigiliana hosts for 4 days the Festival of the Three Cultures. During these days, the village is transformed to be an example of peaceful coexistence beyond beliefs and religions.

This village of the Axarquia is known as “Villa de las tres Culturas” (Village of the three cultures) because of the different civilisations that have passed through its streets: Arabs, Jews and Christians.
There will be an extensive programme with musical performances, conferences and gastronomic days, which take place in the streets, as well as activities, parades, music, juggling, fakirs, belly dancing and children’s activities, along with a traditional market, complete the offer for these days.

The festival has stages with Arab and Sephardic music. Two concerts and a pyromusical show complete the line-up.

August in Malaga is equivalent to summer in full swing: Endlessly blue skies, sun & beach.

August on the Costa del Sol also means a lot of heat. Daily temperatures can reach up to 35ºC and night-time temperatures do not go below 22ºC.

Very typical in Malaga in August is the high humidity which makes us sweat day and night.

Remember to drink plenty of water and it is preferable not to do sport or “fry in the sun” in the central hours of the day. Remember that the sun is very strong, so always apply generously a sunscreen with a high protection factor. Your skin will thank you for it.

It is also typical of Malaga summer to have the occasional day with Terral wind which raises the temperature to well over 35ºC in the blink of an eye.

What clothes should I bring for Malaga in August?

You can bring your favourite summer clothes, flip-flops, sandals and sunscreen, you will need it.

Everything that is light and breathable.

Remember that in Malaga in august we have very high humidity, which means you are basically sweating all day long.
