One of the joys of summer in Malaga is watching movies on the beach. These are typically family-friendly screenings that start at dusk (10:15 pm) and are free of charge.

The open-air cinema for Malaga city dwellers runs from July 2 to August 13 across the city’s various districts, taking place on beaches, in parks, and in other public spaces.

Light of the Moon – Antequera

Antequera will once again host a new edition of ‘Luz de Luna’ this summer. The event typically runs throughout the summer months, from July 1st to September 30th, combining culture, history, music, gastronomy, and nature.

Highlights of this year’s scheduled activities include stargazing at El Torcal, visits to churches such as Santo Domingo, the ‘Paladares de Antequera’ culinary series, yoga at the Alcazaba, an escape room, legend-themed tours, olive oil tastings, gastronomic experiences, and panoramic tours.

The program also features Indie and Blues concerts, as well as the highly anticipated Antequera Light Festival—a standout event taking place on July 17th and 18th.

All concerts are free to attend and begin at 9:30 pm.

Nights in the Thyssen Museum – Malaga

The Carmen Thyssen Museum Malaga will open for free on summer Thursdays – from July 2 to August 13 – between 7 pm and 11 pm.

Visitors can explore the temporary exhibition, the Museum’s Permanent Collection and the shop, as well as the exhibitions in the Sala Noble and the Espacio Artesonado. Free guided tours of the exhibition will also be available.

A terrace with cocktail service and musical ambiance will be available.

Enjoy the beautiful white village of Mijas—just 7 km from Fuengirola—illuminated by the glow of 15,000 candles.

From July 2nd to 5th, the village of Mijas will be adorned with over 15,000 candles, featuring concerts, an Ibiza-style artisan market and many other activities.

Visitors can enjoy street parades (with three scheduled performances on Friday, and five on Saturday and Sunday), juggling acts, jesters, and stilt walkers, all set to the ambiance of Andalusi music. The event will also feature a large children’s play area, workshops for all ages and belly dance performances. There will be no shortage of attractions for children—including a Ferris wheel, a merry-go-round and a pirate ship.

Candlelight will create a special ambiance in some of Mijas Pueblo’s most iconic spots, such as Plaza Virgen de la Peña, Plaza de la Constitución, Calle San Sebastián, and the area around the city walls.

All concerts take place at 9:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at https://lacocheraentradas.com/.

Our advice: Parking in the area is very limited.
There will be a bus service from the fairgrounds in Las Lagunas and La Cala, as well as from the parking lot located at the Mijas Pueblo quarry, from 6:00 pm to 2:00 am.

The English Cemetery Market – Malaga

A new format of special flea market is added to the cultural offer in the city.

Once a month, the English Cemetery in the city centre hosts a flea market with crafts, vintage decoration, second-hand books, ceramics and unique products. The event also features live music and food trucks.

What’s special is the place itself, an emblematic place full of charm: the English Cemetery, the oldest non-Catholic necropolis in the Iberian Peninsula. Strolling through the beautiful garden you can discover the tombs of international personalities of the time who were buried there.

Fancy exploring the upper Axarquía region of Malaga and combining your route with a visit to a local market?

Corumbela, with fewer than 300 inhabitants, is one of the highest villages in the Axarquía, situated at an altitude of 632 metres. This height affords magnificent views in every direction. There are viewpoints from which you can even see the Mediterranean Sea.

That said, the market in Corumbela is held every first Wednesday of the month in the town’s only square, where you can find local products, crafts, homemade sweets, clothing or accessories and discover authentic creations and flavours. The next market is on March 4th.

In July and August, the market transforms into a night market, open from 7:00 pm to midnight.

July in Malaga is equivalent to summer in full swing: Endlessly blue skies, sun & beach.

Summer on the Costa del Sol also means heat. The daily temperatures are around 30ºC and the night-time temperatures do not go above 22ºC.

It is also typical of Malaga summer to have the occasional day with Terral wind which raises the temperature to well over 30ºC in the blink of an eye.

What clothes should I bring for July in Malaga?

You can bring your favourite summer clothes, flip-flops, sandals and sunscreen, you will need it.

Everything that is light and breathable.

Remember that in Malaga we have very high humidity, which means you are basically sweating all day long.
