Mijas “with Soul”

Enjoy the beautiful white village Mijas, only 7 km from Fuengirola, by the light of 15.000 candles.

From the 5th to the 7th of July Mijas village will be decorated with more than 15.000 candles, there will be concerts, a medieval market and many more activities.

Candlelighting will give a special atmosphere to some of the most emblematic spots in Mijas Pueblo, such as Plaza Virgen de la Peña, Plaza de la Constitución, Calle San Sebastián and the city wall area.

There will be plenty of entertainment with parades, jugglers, jesters and stilt walkers, Andalusian music and belly dancing.

There will also be a large children’s toy library, workshops for young and old and various children’s attractions such as a Ferris wheel, a merry-go-round and a pirate ship with popular prices.

In the auditorium there will be three concerts: Mecano tribute concert (Friday 5 July), El Selu (Saturday 6 July) and Pasión Vega (Sunday 7 July).

All the concerts take place at 9:30 pm and tickets can be purchased at https://lacocheraentradas.com/.

Our advice: Parking in the area is very limited.
A bus service will be available from the fairgrounds of Las Lagunas and La Cala, as well as from the car park located at the quarry in Mijas village from 6 pm to 2 am.

Nights at the Thyssen Museum

From 11 July to 8 August the Museum Carmen Thyssen Malaga opens at night free of charge.

During these five Thursday evenings, guided tours will be offered and visitors will have free access to the Museum’s exhibition rooms.

Visitors can also enjoy the Patio with music and special lighting, and there will be a cocktail service.

Reggaeton Beach Festival Nerja

Reggaeton Beach Festival Nerja

The festival for urban music lovers will be held on the 6th and 7th of July for the first time in Nerja. The line-up features international artists along with top DJs.

In addition, there is a wide variety of attractions, playgrounds and water areas, artificial grass and drinking fountains, bars and gastronomy with vegan and gluten-free options.
The Festival is daytime, from 4 pm to 12 pm.

Espeto Fest Estepona

The beach of La Rada in Estepona will host the Espeto Fest festival from the 27th to the 29th of July. For three days visitors can enjoy free music and entertainment.

The festival will kick off on Thursday with a Tribute to ‘El último de la fila’ with ‘Los Hombres Rana’. On Friday there will be The New Project Band, Alternative Rock from Madrid and on Saturday it ends with REGGAE NIGHT.

Colour Run Algarrobo

Carrera Algarrobo en Color

The small coastal town of Algarrobo hosts this event of sport, colour, music and fun for the benefit of AVOI (Children’s Oncology Volunteers Association).

The race, which will be 2.5 km long, will run along the promenade of Algarrobo Costa where coloured powder will be thrown at the participants along different points.

The start is scheduled for 10:30 am, from the Plaza in Calle Velero de Mezquitilla. There will also be a bar with food and drink to liven up the meeting.

Each participant will be given a race kit (T-shirt, sunglasses and more gifts) and there will be a prize for the best costume.

Moonlight, Antequera

Antequera will once again host a new edition of ‘Luz de Luna’ this summer. This event usually takes place throughout the summer months, from mid-June to mid-September.

This year there will be around thirty activities. Among the most notable activities are:

  • Accessible route of palaces and convents
  • Guided tour of the Alcazaba by night
  • Dance and Music in the Alcazaba
  • Rituals in the Dolmens of Antequera
  • Route of stories and legends
  • Wines in the shadow of El Torcal
  • Night visits to the Villa Romana de la Estación, which can be visited with a special illumination.
  • Celebrations of the Moon. Guided nocturnal visits to the megalithic monuments of Menga and Viera.
  • Full moon cycle at Menga. Coinciding with the full moon in July, August and September, attendees will enjoy a night-time concert in the atrium of the Menga Dolmen.
  • Astronomical observation of the Perseids
  • El Torcal under the full moon. Guided hiking route through this natural site. The visit starts at sunset and ends at night under the full moon. Dates: 18, 19 & 20 JUL / 16, 17, 18 & 19 AUG / 15 & 16 SEP

Marbella Fashion Show

A new edition of this festival which takes place in the open air venue of the Benalmadena Municipal Auditorium, from the 19th of July to the 7th of August.

The Municipal Auditorium ‘Cortijo de Torres’ is an open-air facility with a maximum capacity of around 6,000 people standing and 4,000 seated.

A sporting appointment to take part in the open water swimming that takes place on 29 July along the Torremolinos coastline. There is a 3.5 kilometre swim and a 7 kilometre swim.

Although you might not sign up as a swimmer, you might want to go to the beaches to take part in the festive atmosphere.

The 7 kilometre course starts at La Carihuela beach and the 3.5 kilometre course starts at El Bajondillo, with the finishing line at Los Álamos, next to the Restaurant-Chiringuito ‘El Sardiná’.

Traditional festival

The processions of the Virgen del Carmen are a seafaring tradition that is lived with fervour and great devotion in the province of Malaga: from Nerja to Manilva, in many coastal towns large maritime processions are held on the occasion of the Carmen festivities.

The processions in Pedregalejo (Malaga), Carihuela (Torremolinos) and Estepona are particularly beautiful and moving.

Marenostrum Fuengirola

The Marenostrum Festival is one of the best festivals on the coast, both for its line-up of artists and its unrivalled location just a few metres from the seashore next to the Moorish fortress Sohail.

July in Malaga is equivalent to summer in full swing: Endlessly blue skies, sun & beach.

Summer on the Costa del Sol also means heat. The daily temperatures are around 30ºC and the night-time temperatures do not go above 22ºC.

It is also typical of Malaga summer to have the occasional day with Terral wind which raises the temperature to well over 30ºC in the blink of an eye.

What clothes should I bring for July in Malaga?

You can bring your favourite summer clothes, flip-flops, sandals and sunscreen, you will need it.

Everything that is light and breathable.

Remember that in Malaga we have very high humidity, which means you are basically sweating all day long.
